Inspiration comes from many places. This image, a woman silhouetted by the later afternoon sun was taken in Tirana, Albania in 1993. I lived in Albania that year for about five months and held an Art Exhibition there. It was a fascinating time, coming just after the fall of Communism and the country was starting to open up to the outside world. I had previously travelled to Albania during the Communist Era and fell in love with the Country.
It’s been over 30 years since I left and my knowledge of the Albanian Language isn’t as great as it once was. Shqipëria sot nuk është problem (Albania today is not a problem) is one of the few things I do remember. A version of this image was used on the cover of my second poetry book ‘The Light through the Window’
